Rows of wavy scales, as on a pine cone. Almost every cut here is a curve, which is unusual; six strips in each half, and only the outer edges are straight. The halves mirror each other, and one template covers both. The waves have to meet for the scales to close, so cut every strip in the same direction while your hand keeps the same curve.
